Work life balance is something that many of us are trying to achieve. This is also the cause of a lot of stress and frustration. Recently not only have I gotten married, but I’ve also begun a new job. This is not my first new job, but this is the first time in a while that I have desperate needed work life balance. Selfish is a word that often gets a bad rap. I place being selfish at the top of my list because it’s important to put yourself first. Decide what you want out of your current situation, don’t worry about what society or your friends will say. The rest gets easier if it’s something you want.
So you know what you want to do, but what parts of that are most important? It’s good to know what tasks take precedence over others. I believe that Work Life balance is so much easier when you have priorities. For example I have a new job but don’t want to spend all my hard earned money. So even though my new coworkers like to eat out for lunch, I always opt to bring in my own food from home. I am missing an opportunity to socialize and bond with them, but I’ve decided saving money is more important.
Schedule Everything Including Your New Job
I schedule things more than the average person because I am just weird like that. My calendar and notepad keep me on track with upcoming events and reminders for the day. My new job has hours that vary and other special events I would have to attend. To stay on track I’ve even added my work calendar to my phone. Many may not realize but an event at work can throw off your regular schedule. Work may cause you to come home later, or create some other kind of disturbance to your morning routine.
Saying No Helps Your Work Life Balance Too
Whether you work part time, work from home or work multiple jobs, work life balance is important. Saying no is a powerful tool in keeping it together. It’s hard to say no, often times I’ve had to turn down going to an event, working with a brand or even drinks with friends. There is nothing wrong with refusing extra activities when your plate is already full or if you just need a break.
Work life balance can be achieved and it’s all up to you. You can design a plan that works best for you to get there. Having a healthy work life balance will reduce your stress levels and help you accomplish more. Give the above tips a try and see how far you can go.
