Natural Hair Impostors. Are you one?

Natural Hair impostors are among us. Lately I’ve been hearing discussions about what makes someone “natural” in how they wear their natural hair. By the most basic definition, it means the hair is worn in its natural state without it being chemically altered. The “Natural Hair” term is most often used to describe men and women of color who wear their hair in its natural curl pattern that is coily, kinky, wavy, or curly. And yes, natural hair that is colored counts as long as its curl pattern isn’t chemically straightened. We always focus on that argument but bypass a small group of women who participate in the community knowing…

4B Hair Wash-n-Go, The Hair Rules Salon Method

When I first went natural a few years ago, I was introduced to the Wash-And-Go world by way of the “Dickey Method” at Hair Rules salon in Manhattan. First, the stylist trimmed my hair and shampooed it with a gentle cleanser. The stylist applied the “curly whip” in sections while my hair was saturated. The product was smoothed through my wet hair, allowing it to clump and elogate my curls. I was then instructed to shake out my curls while my head was upside down. I thought it was weird but it worked like magic to give curl separation and volume. After that I sat under a hooded dryer, then…

7 Reasons Why I Hate Wedding Planning

It was the night of Valentine’s Day when my life was on the road to change. At my surprise, my fiancé got down on one knee in the middle of dinner and proposed to me. I said “yes” but never expected that I would slowly come to hate wedding planning. I love my fiancé and the engagement journey, but as the excitement wears off I think I want to get off this wedding planning roller coaster. RevAir Review on Kinky 4b Hair, The Worlds First Reverse Air Dryer

The RevAir is the  World’s First and Only Reverse-Air Dryer. It is proven to dry hair 3x faster than a normal dryer. It uses half the wattage which exposes your hair to less heat. In addition it is a 2-in-1 device which can dry and straighten hair in one step. RevAir sent me a dryer to review and give my honest opinion, read on to see what I think.  Why do you need one? Blow drying hair takes time and multiple tools. In my relaxed hair days I’d use a round bristle brush. Now with my natural hair id have to use a paddle brush. Either way I was looking…

Texture On The Runway 2018, New York Fashion Week

Texture on the runway is one of my favorite New York Fashion Week events. A few years ago NaturallyCurly.com founder Michelle Breyer created Texture On The Runway to fill a void. Just like Michelle, during Fashion Week I would always be looking for representation of women that looked like me. Thanks to Texture on the Runway powered by Sally Beauty, mainstream media and the fashion industry have to pay attention to the undeniable beauty of textured hair. This year the Texture On The Runway theme had to be influenced by the current state of society’s unwillingness to have multiple leaders or “Queens” in certain categories. Especially in the beauty, music…

5 Ways To Stay Cool In The Kitchen Now

As I’m typing this post it’s taking everything in me not to go off like YouTuber KrissyChula in her famous “It’s Hot as Hell” video.  Cooking in summer heat is the worst, but mainly because I don’t have air conditioning. I wish I could give up on being in my kitchen in the summer months, but adulting wont let me. Until then here are 5 ways to stay cool in the kitchen now. 1. Don’t Turn On The Oven. Baking is fun, but you may want to save that recipe for another day. If you have no choice, do it in the early morning/late night when it’s cooler. Bake multiple items at once and refrigerate…

5 Easy Ways To Speed Up Your Metabolism

Genetically everyone’s metabolism is different. Some people have high metabolisms and can’t gain weight, some have slow metabolisms and difficulty losing weight. Either way the body is open to change. By making a few adjustments, you can speed up your metabolism. My fitness journey has been long and I’ve experienced a lot. I have been at every weight from skinny to pleasantly fluffy. Maintaining a healthy balance is what really matters to me, I don’t really aim for a particular number on the scale. I don’t obsess over how much I weigh or how many calories I eat in a day. In addition I like food and in moments when I…
